Beyond 2012: Why the World Won't End NASA Explanation

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.   Answer (A): The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012. Q: What is the origin of the prediction that the world will end in 2012?   A:  The story started with claims that Nibiru, a supposed planet discovered by the Sumerians, is headed toward Earth. This catastrophe was initially predicted for May 2003, but when nothing happened the doomsday date was moved forward to December 2012 and linked to the end of one of the cycles in the ancient Mayan calendar at the winter solstice in 2012 -- hence the predicted doomsday date of December 21, 2012. Q: Does the Mayan calendar end in December 2012?   A:  Just as the calendar you have on your kitchen wall does not cease to exist after December 31, the Mayan...

Waring From XDA Remove Unlocked Bootloader Warning from Your RAZR M

Have you recently picked up a shiny new RAZR M  and decided to unlock the bootloader? If you have, you’ve surely noticed that upon booting the device you are now greeted by a rather sternly worded warning which seems to suggest that not only is your device at risk from physical damage, but you are as well. Thankfully, we’ve yet to hear of anybody being blown to smithereens by unlocking their bootloader. Should you wish to get rid of the unlocked bootloader warning in favour of the good old fashioned Motorola logo, you are in luck. XDA Senior Member jimmydafish  has posted details on how to do just that. Obviously you aren’t limited to using the original Motorola logo, and you can in fact use any image of your choice—a perfect opportunity to give your device it’s own unique start up screen.

Build from Source Easier with Android Open Source Compiler

Sometimes a program comes along that is so handy, so revolutionary, it makes one wonder why it hasn’t been done before. A few months ago, we covered the CyanogenMod Compiler by XDA Recognized Developer lithid-cm . This handy Linux program featured a GUI, and made it much simpler for developers to compile a customized version of CyanogenMod. Now a new beast has been released in the form of lithid-cm’s latest program, the Android Open Source Compiler (or AOSC from here on out). Like CMC, this application is a Linux program with a GUI front end that is designed to make compilation of the

CWM Recovery 6 Lands on the HTC Rhodium

Custom recoveries such as the venerable ClockworkMod Recovery are (in addition to Superuser and SuperSU) likely some of the most widely utilized programs developed on XDA due to the functionality they bring and the doors that they open. As such, CWM has been ported to countless devices, and has become the preferred method of flashing custom ROMs onto virtually anything that runs Android. It seems that the CWM fever expanded into devices that were never meant to run this type of recovery image such as Windows Mobile devices. Now, we are all familiar with this thanks to the likes of the immortal HTC HD2 and its ability to run virtually any OS, regardless of platform. However, the HD2 is not the only WinMo device capable of running Android or CWM.

Growing Up Technology

Many people see technology as a solution to some of the problems that exist on our planet. It’s true that technology can be used for good, but with new developments come new challenges issues. The digital divide is one such issue, one that people are actively trying to overcome. Telecentres aim to bridge the digital divide by providing people access and knowledge about information technologies. A global telecentre movement is growing right now. Unfortunately, even where computer facilities are readily available, the digital divide persists—even in the world's most wealthy countries, access to the latest and most beneficial technologies is limited for those in rural areas and people with disabilities.
